No matter what the backroom business was when this deal was struck in recent months, it was the fans who won today, when the Webslinger expansion to the Avengers and Captain America: Civil War and Figs movies raised nearly $8 billion on the last two Spideys together for those five movies. The news is a dramatic reversal for Sony and Disney, who had previously failed to reach an agreement on the character`s future in the MCU. There is a crucial difference between this latest Spider-Man deal and the one that was achieved in 2015. Spider-Man may be able to swing between skyscrapers, but his main strength might be to stay. On the other hand, the press release from Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures is this time much more mysterious.

Meanwhile, Marvel Studios has become increasingly mysterious; Gone are the days when the studio announced five years of films at a time. All of this means of course that this new Spider-Man deal is much more mysterious.Back to Blog
